My Birthday

Today's my birthday.  I turned 31.  It seems, for me, I go through phases with birthdays.  Of course, as a youngster every birthday was anticipated and it often marked new privileges and expectations.  At 6, I'd go to kindergarten.  At 12, I'd go to Jr. High.  At 16, I'd be able to drive.  At 18, I'd be able to vote.  At 19, I'd go on a mission.  I imagine there will come a time when birthdays will begin to be retrospective.  I see a lot of people who use their birthdays as times to reflect on what has past, or to worry about where they are at that time in their lives–the proverbial mid-life crisis.

As for now, however, I'm neither.  I'm cruisin'.  No thoughts.  It's just another day.  I'm supposed to be paying attention to Civil Procedure and I have to work on a motion that's due on Monday.  The only thing different today is that my wife and kids are meeting me for lunch downtown.  Whether it's my birthday or not, that makes it a great day.
